Dr. Jayaprabhu will be discussing the role of psychotropic medications in patients and the coordination of care between prescriber and therapist with the purpose of optimizing care for a patient. Topics covered will include looking at different models of mental health care, the components of a psychiatric evaluation and care, the use of psychotropic medications in mental illness, risks and benefits of medications and different perspectives for their use. Dr. Jayaprabhu will then go into more detail about psychotropic medications describing first general properties of psychotropic medications and then more specifically the characteristics of each major category of psychiatric medications as time allows. Dr. Jayaprabhu prefers an interactive experience and encourages questions during the presentation.

PRESENTED BY SUNDEEP JAYAPRABHU, MD
Dr. Jayaprabhu graduated from Texas A&M College of Medicine and completed his residency at St. Louis University (SLU) in psychiatry. He completed the two year Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program (APP) and is currently an Advanced Candidate in the Adult Psychoanalytic Training program at the St. Louis Psychoanalytic Institute. Dr. Jayaprabhu's private practice ranges from psychopharmacology to psychotherapy to psychoanalysis. His employments have included Attending Physician at SLU for their inpatient, consultation-liaison and forensic services, a local psychiatric ER, consultation service for a local hospital and several community clinics. He continues to supervise psychiatry residents at St. Louis University and teaches the Termination class for the APP program. Dr. Jayaprabhu’s lectures include topics on psychopharmacology, existentialism and music’s relationship to the art of listening.
